As of this weekend, the digital asset solana (SOL) is closing August with its first monthly win in nearly a year, as institutional money, a tighter future token supply, and record network activity drove SOL back above $100 per coin.
Solana Breaks 10-Month Curse as Institutional Money Storms In

Key Takeaways
- Solana (SOL) climbed roughly 46% in August, snapping a brutal ten-month monthly losing streak.
- Charles Schwab plans SOL access across a platform serving roughly 39 million accounts.
- Solana’s Transaction V1 lands Sept. 9 as its aggressive upgrade schedule rolls forward.
The token traded near $106 on Sunday afternoon after touching $110.38 on Aug. 27, its highest level since late January. SOL has climbed roughly 46% this month and is about 80% higher from its June low, pushing its market valuation back toward the $61 billion zone.
Wall Street Money Starts Chasing Solana
The move snapped ten consecutive monthly declines and handed solana its strongest month since 2024. But SOL still remains far below its January 2025 all-time high (ATH) near $293, putting August firmly in comeback territory rather than price discovery. SOL would need to climb another 63.5% higher from here to reach ATH.
One thing is for certain: regulated investment products have supplied a visible bid. U.S. spot solana exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have collected roughly $1.34 billion in cumulative net inflows since launching in October 2025, according to stats from sosovalue.com. Bitwise’s BSOL solana fund, which is also a staking ETF, has also cleared $1 billion in assets under management.

Another major distribution channel is coming. On Aug. 27, Charles Schwab announced plans to add spot SOL, avalanche (AVAX), and chainlink (LINK) to Schwab Crypto in the coming months. Schwab oversees more than $12 trillion in client assets across roughly 39 million brokerage accounts.
Corporate buyers are stepping in too. Defi Development Corp. purchased 19,000 SOL at an average price of $98.14, lifting its holdings to about 2.33 million SOL. Goldman Sachs also disclosed roughly $88 million in Solana ETF exposure in its latest regulatory filing.
Solana Vote Puts Future Supply in a Squeeze
Meanwhile, Solana completed its first binding onchain governance vote. SGP-0002, dubbed “Double Disinflation,” passed with 67% support from participating stakeholders, barely clearing the required two-thirds threshold.
The change doubles Solana’s annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%. Put plainly, new SOL will enter circulation at a much slower pace sooner, while the network retains its eventual 1.5% inflation floor. Estimates place the issuance reduction at roughly 18.9 million SOL over six years.
Nothing changes overnight. Developers still have to finish the software work and activate the policy across the network, leaving implementation as the next critical checkpoint for traders tracking Solana’s future supply.
Record Traffic Pushes Solana’s Limits
The rally also arrived with heavy network usage. The Kobeissi Letter reported on Aug. 25 that Solana processed a record 4.2 billion transactions in July, 13.5% above June and roughly 91% higher than December 2025. From Aug. 17-23, it logged about 1.32 billion non-vote transactions, setting another weekly record.

More capacity is already queued up. Transaction V1, scheduled for Sept. 9, will raise the maximum transaction size from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes, giving applications substantially more room to package data into individual transactions.
Storage is getting cheaper too. Solana’s planned rent reduction could eventually slash the deposit required to keep data stored onchain by 90%, reducing costs for developers creating token accounts, non-fungible tokens and tokenized real-world assets.
September Will Decide Whether SOL’s Rally Has Legs
At the same time, leverage basically poured gasoline on August’s move, with more than $16 million in solana short positions liquidated during the breakout toward $109, according to Coinglass.com derivatives stats. Forced buying can quickly stretch a rally, but that machinery works just as aggressively when momentum turns south.
September brings the harder test. SOL traders will be watching the first rent reduction, Transaction V1 on Sept. 9, shorter transaction times and progress toward the planned Alpenglow consensus upgrade in October. Those milestones will show whether August started something bigger or merely delivered solana’s sharpest rebound in nearly a year.
