Zksync, an Ethereum layer two ( L2) network developed by Matter Labs, has launched a new community-driven governance system named ZK Nation. The system aims to enhance the governance, security, and scalability of the Zksync protocol through active community participation.

ZK Nation: New Governance Framework Introduced by ZKsync
According to the announcement, the ZK Nation governance framework is structured to empower token holders with significant influence over the Zksync protocol. Participants will have the ability to propose and vote on protocol upgrades and network parameter changes. The governance system is composed of three onchain bodies: the Token Assembly, Security Council, and Guardians.
Zksync detailed that the Token Assembly, which includes token holders and their delegates, will be responsible for proposing and ratifying initiatives. The Guardians will uphold the values of the ZK Credo, while the Security Council will focus on technical security, including the ability to freeze the protocol in response to security threats.
The team asserts that since the launch of Zksync Era on mainnet in March 2023, the protocol has demonstrated high throughput and low fees, validating over 350 million transactions and creating more than six million wallet addresses. To Matter Labs and Zksync, the introduction of ZK Nation is seen as a step toward maintaining strong decentralization guarantees and ensuring the protocol’s resilience going forward.
The blog post concludes by explaining that more details on the delegation process, token allocation, and governance structure will be shared with the Zksync community in the coming weeks. “The future of the internet depends on our collective action,” the team stated. “By uniting to deeply embed a commitment to freedom, ZK Nation can preserve the integrity of Zksync and its ecosystem for the long term.”
