Worldcoin, the biometric identification project, has announced a new expansion process in Argentina, where it reportedly will seek to open 50 new locations with eye-scanning hardware. The announcement comes after Buenos Aires indicted Tools For Humanity, the company behind Worldcoin, for including abusive clauses in its service agreements, and a meeting between Worldcoin executives with Argentine President Javier Milei.

Worldcoin Chooses Argentina as Latin America Hub, Estimates Opening 50 New Locations

Worldcoin, the proof-of-personhood biometric project, is reportedly planning to establish a regional Latam hub in Argentina and expand its operations. According to a press release cited by Criptonoticias, the project will establish 50 new locations in over 10 different cities across the country, all with the presence of Orbs, hardware needed to read the iris of each Worldcoin participant.

Furthermore, the company plans to open two special locations dedicated to educating about the project and delving into the technology that drives the company’s operations and objectives. Worldcoin’s expansion in Argentina is also set to create opportunities for local software developers, capitalizing on numerous job openings resulting from this process.

This decision was taken after a meeting between Worldcoin executives and Argentine President Javier Milei took place in California. Martín Mazza, regional manager of Tools For Humanity, explained that due to its specific characteristics, Argentina is “an ideal place for the development of tools aimed at preparing for the era of artificial intelligence.”

Mazza stressed that this move into Argentina shows Latam’s relevance for Worldcoin, and its push to keep growing in several of the region’s countries. Recently the project officially launched operations in Colombia, opening ten iris scanning locations in two cities.

Nonetheless, Worldcoin has been facing heavy opposition for its activities and is even facing an indictment in Buenos Aires regarding the alleged inclusion of abusive clauses in its service agreement contracts that affect users’ rights. Worldcoin is facing over $1 million in fines in this legal procedure, and the introduction of a bill that seeks to organize a probe into the company’s activities.
