Ethereum Acquisition? Wintermute Predicts Public Company to Issue Debt for Ether
The report confidently projects that institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies will gain significant momentum in the coming year. “Wintermute’s spot OTC trading desk experienced substantial growth across all key metrics,” the firm’s study explained. “Market coverage expanded significantly to encompass 946 unique trading pairs, a 64% increase over 2023 where 576 unique pairs were traded.”

Wintermute further disclosed that contracts for difference (CFD) volumes expanded to comprise 4.3% of the firm’s total OTC trading activity in a span of merely nine months. The report also shared a series of forecasts for 2025, with the first focusing on the ongoing discourse surrounding the potential establishment of a U.S. strategic bitcoin reserve.
“The U.S. will begin consultations to create a strategic bitcoin reserve,” the company said. “China, UAE, and Europe will be forced to follow.”
Wintermute went on to predict that a publicly listed company might issue debt or equity to secure ethereum (ETH). In a separate forecast, the HFT and OTC firm anticipated that a significant corporate milestone—whether a dividend payout, acquisition, or merger—would be executed and finalized using stablecoins. Wintermute forecasts the debut of a meme coin exchange-traded fund (ETF), with its wager placed firmly on dogecoin (DOGE).
Additionally, the firm anticipates that a ‘systemically important bank’ will begin offering spot cryptocurrency trading to its clientele. On another front, Wintermute predicts that non- EVM layer-1 and layer-2 solutions will capture a greater share of the market, while Ethereum is expected to maintain its position as the dominant force in the sector.
Wintermute’s 2025 forecasts illuminate a dynamic transformation within the financial sphere, where digital assets are poised to occupy a pivotal position in both corporate and institutional frameworks. If these scenarios take shape, they could herald a redefinition of market operations, and also a profound recalibration of traditional finance (tradfi) in response to the swift advancements in blockchain technology.
