ICANN Accredits Unstoppable Domains as Largest Web3 Registrar
Unstoppable Domains, known for its Web3 domain and digital identity services, has officially been accredited by ICANN, expanding its domain offerings beyond Web3-specific domains to include a broader range of top-level domains. This accreditation allows the company to offer traditional domain extensions, such as generic top-level domains (gTLDs) and country code domains (ccTLDs), while integrating blockchain functionalities into these domains.
The move is expected to bridge the gap between traditional internet infrastructure and decentralized Web3 innovations. “ICANN accreditation is a major milestone for our Unstoppable community,” Matt Gould, the CEO and founder of Unstoppable Domains (UD) remarked during the announcement. “We are thrilled to continue expanding into broader accreditation and traditional web infrastructure while maintaining our core ethos of user ownership.”
In addition to expanding its domain portfolio, Unstoppable Domains disclosed it will introduce new services, including an onchain domain marketplace and tools for managing tokenized domains. The company detailed that it has already supports 19 leading Web3 companies, including Blockchain.com, in preparing for future ICANN gTLD applications.
“The ultimate goal of bringing domains onchain is to allow users, brands, and companies to take the best from both worlds and fully leverage the power of Web3 within the traditional Internet space,” UD’s announcement concluded.
