Peter Schiff’s Bets on Dead Horses
Veteran trader Peter Brandt has criticized the gold advocate Peter Schiff, for his tendency to attack bitcoin ( BTC) to garner attention and followers. Brandt suggested that he wants to give Schiff the benefit of the doubt, even though Schiff’s statements increasingly portray him in a negative light.
In a post on X, Brandt appears to dissect one of Schiff’s social posts in which the gold bug predicts a rise in the price of silver by more than 20%, compared to a 2% rise for BTC. Brandt also suggests that while Schiff’s latest prediction is likely to materialize, many of his previous bets or predictions have not.
“He knows he has been betting on dead horses. Just because one horse (Silver) $SLV $SILV decided to take a jog, Schiff is having a social media orgasm,” Brandt told his followers on X.
As Bitcoin.com News has repeatedly reported, Schiff has consistently predicted the demise of bitcoin but these predictions have yet to come to fruition. Despite this, Schiff has not hesitated to make further forecasts. This has led bitcoin enthusiasts, and now Brandt, to question his motives.
BTC an Imaginary Horse
In his response to the veteran trader’s critique of his silver price prediction, Schiff countered by asserting that he was merely providing an honest perspective on the risks associated with investing in Bitcoin. He said:
Why don’t you give me the benefit of the doubt and just assume I’m being honest about my view on bitcoin? If you are betting on bitcoin you are betting on an imaginary horse. A lot of people will lose a bunch of money betting on bitcoin. I am just warning them of the high risk.
Meanwhile, reactions to Brandt and Schiff’s social media tiff appeared to be mixed with some supporting the latter’s position. Others however lambasted him for constantly focusing on BTC which he claims to loathe.
One X user suggested that Brandt may have gone off course by attacking Schiff who he says is a brilliant macro guy. However, another said Schiff should be allowed to celebrate a first in 12 years.
