After Judge James Mellor in the U.K. rendered his decision in the notable lawsuit initiated by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) against Craig Wright, he concluded that Wright did not embody the persona of the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto. Subsequently, Mellor enforced a worldwide injunction on Wright’s holdings, freezing assets valued at £6.7 million (approximately $7.6 million).

COPA’s Legal Victory Leads to Freezing of Craig Wright’s Assets Following a Corporate Registry Transfer
In the most recent legal ruling against Craig Wright, Mellor issued a global freezing injunction on £6.7 million (equivalent to $7.6 million) of Wright’s assets, following Wright’s transfer of his company shares to a Singapore-based entity. Mellor noted that Wright informed the U.K.’s corporate registry, about the transfer of shares from his RCJBR Holding company to Singapore’s DeMorgan.
“Understandably, that gave rise to serious concerns on COPA’s part that Dr Wright was implementing measures to seek to evade the costs [and] consequences of his loss at trial,” the motion details.
Mellor added:
Given those concerns and notwithstanding that I have yet to hand down my judgment, COPA issued, lodged and served its application for costs on Friday 22 March 2024. Thereafter, it issued its application for a worldwide freezing order in respect of Dr Wright’s likely costs liability on Monday 25 March 2024.
Mellor further noted that regarding the merits of the Identity Issue—the sole focus of the Joint Trial—COPA and the Developers have prevailed, though he has not yet detailed his full rationale. However, he emphasized that he had already mentioned that “the evidence was overwhelming.” Mellor also added that Wright has a history of defaults. “Dr Wright has a history of default in relation to orders for the payment of money,” the U.K. judge wrote.
