Solana Meets Trump: Former President’s $4B Meme Coin Takes Crypto by Storm
Bitcoin.com News recently reported on Trump’s newly unveiled meme coin, officially named official trump (TRUMP). As of 7 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, Jan. 18, the token was trading at over $20 per coin. Just an hour earlier, it had reached its peak valuation to date, with a record high of $23.97 per coin. Presently, TRUMP holds the distinction of being the fourth-largest meme coin by market capitalization, solidifying its $4 billion valuation.

What details have emerged about TRUMP so far? For starters, it was minted on the Solana blockchain, and a significant portion of its supply is in the hands of insiders. At present, there are 200,000,000 TRUMP coins in circulation, though the project intends to release a total supply of 999,999,987.35 tokens gradually. According to the coin’s official website, its distribution plan is meticulously outlined, dividing the supply into several categories.

A breakdown of the token allocation shows that “Creators & CIC Digital” is set to receive 36% of the total supply. Two additional allocations of 18% each are also planned, followed by another tranche comprising 4%. The remaining tokens will be divided into two smaller batches, each accounting for 2% of the total supply. In total, approximately 800 million TRUMP tokens have been earmarked across the various distribution categories, each subject to a three-year vesting period.
Data from Solscan reveals that the largest wallet holds 800 million TRUMP tokens, while the second-largest address manages 27,965,000 TRUMP. The third-largest wallet, belonging to the token’s creator, controls 14 million TRUMP. Notably, several of the top ten wallets are exchange wallets tied to platforms such as MEXC, Meteora, Bybit, and Bitget. Adding to the buzz, Tron founder Justin Sun announced earlier today that HTX will also be listing TRUMP.
Although the coin’s price has dipped from its previous peak, it remains up by an impressive 404%, currently trading at $21.66 per coin. The launch of a meme coin by a U.S. president is a bewildering chapter in the already unpredictable world of cryptocurrency. It blurs the boundaries of politics, digital assets, and internet culture, leaving observers grappling with the absurdity of it all. That a presidential figure now fuels such a spectacle reflects the ever-expanding reach of crypto’s influence.
