Trump Vows Crypto-Friendly Policies, Pledges ‘Common Sense’ and Predicts Bitcoin Boom

Donald Trump took the stage at the Bitcoin 2024 event in Nashville, marking the first time a former U.S. president addressed a BTC-related conference. In recent months, since May 2024, Trump has expressed strong support for cryptocurrency, generating significant enthusiasm among digital currency advocates for his appearance. Trump compared the Bitcoin industry to the steel industry a century ago. The former president highlighted that BTC is currently the ninth most valuable asset globally and predicted that it would eventually surpass the market value of both silver and gold.

“Congratulations on all that you accomplished,” Trump told bitcoin enthusiasts. He emphasized that the U.S. should lead in the future of bitcoin ( BTC) ahead of China, a point he has reiterated previously. “I want the United States to be the first in technology,” Trump stated. He also mentioned his uncle, an MIT professor, noting that he would have gotten along well with the attendees. He mentioned that his administration would generate substantial amounts of electricity. Trump further talked about Elon Musk’s endorsement of him during a part about electric cars. Trump expressed that he does not believe everyone should own an electric vehicle.

Trump said his campaign raised 25 million dollars in crypto, much of which was bitcoin ( BTC). The former president warned that the Harris administration would be “ruthless” toward the crypto industry. “This afternoon I am laying out my plan to ensure that the United States will be the crypto capital of the planet,” Trump stated. “And the bitcoin superpower of the world.” The 45th president described Biden as the “worst president of the United States” and stated that Vice President Kamala Harris doesn’t support crypto.

He promised Joe Biden’s and Kamala Harris’s crackdown will end day one, and that he plans to fire U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair, Gary Gensler, the same day. Trump pledged to appoint a new SEC chair if his administration takes over. He promised to immediately shut down Operation Chokepoint 2.0 upon assuming the presidency. Additionally, he vowed to establish a crypto council within his administration to develop favorable regulations within the first 100 days. Trump asserted, “there will never be a [central bank digital currency] CBDC” during his term.

He also emphasized his support for non-custodial solutions and responsible regulation of stablecoins. Trump argued that BTC is not a threat to the U.S. dollar, stating, “the behavior of the U.S. government threatens the dollar.” Trump said if he wins the election, the stock market will rocket, but if he loses, the U.S. economy may see a depression similar to the one that occurred in 1929. As the conference concluded, attendees left with a sense of renewed vigor and anticipation. The former president’s bold promises and assertive stance on cryptocurrency painted a vision of a transformed financial landscape. The narrative of Bitcoin as a cornerstone of the future U.S. economy lingered, leaving many to ponder the potential shifts on the horizon.

Meanwhile, as Trump finished up his speech about bitcoin ( BTC) and the industry, the top cryptocurrency fell 1.6% against the U.S. dollar. He concluded his address by emphasizing that the U.S. government will retain 100% of its BTC reserves. Additionally, he reaffirmed his commitment to commuting the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, the Silk Road founder who is serving two life sentences. “Enough is enough,” Trump stated regarding Ulbricht’s incarceration.
