Scammers Trick Crypto Users With Faked USDT Balances, Slowmist Reports

This article was published more than a year ago. Some information may no longer be current.

Slowmist, teaming up with Imtoken, has exposed a new cryptocurrency scam exploiting offline transactions and using USDT, where scammers manipulate Ethereum RPC to falsify USDT balances in the victim’s wallet. The con artists coax victims into changing their Ethereum RPC URL to one they control, making it appear as though USDT funds were deposited, only to leave victims empty-handed upon attempting transactions. Additionally, the scam involves tricking users with small transfers to gain trust and later manipulating account balances and contract information, posing serious risks to unsuspecting users, and has been linked to broader pig butchering scam activities.
