Robinhood Layer 2 Testnet Hits 4 Million Transactions in Week One

CEO Tenev Bets Big on Tokenized Finance as Testnet Gains Early Traction

Robinhood’s push into blockchain infrastructure is off to a fast start. CEO Vlad Tenev said the company’s public testnet for Robinhood Chain recorded four million transactions in its first week. The Ethereum Layer 2 network, built on Arbitrum, went live last Tuesday after six months of private testing.

“Developers are already building on our L2, designed for tokenized real-world assets and on-chain financial services,” Tenev wrote on X, adding that the next chapter of finance “runs on-chain.”

Robinhood Chain is structured as a permissionless, high-throughput platform aimed at financial applications. The company says it will natively support tokenized equities, ETFs, and other real-world assets. Infrastructure partners already integrated include Alchemy, Layerzero, and Chainlink.

The early transaction volume signals strong developer curiosity, especially as tokenization becomes a central theme across crypto and traditional finance. Robinhood last month outlined plans to expand its tokenized stock offerings with 24/7 trading, near real-time settlement, and self-custody features.

The timing is notable. Building its own chain gives the company more control over infrastructure, fees, and product design at a time when trading volumes remain volatile. A mainnet launch is expected later this year, though no firm date has been disclosed.

If Robinhood succeeds, it won’t just be a brokerage offering crypto. It could become the rails beneath tokenized markets. That’s a much bigger ambition, and one that places it squarely in competition with both crypto-native protocols and legacy exchanges exploring blockchain settlement.
