Ripple, DBS, and Franklin Templeton Unveil Game-Changing Tokenized Asset Framework

Ripple announced on Sept. 18 that it is partnering with DBS Group Holdings Ltd. and Franklin Templeton “to provide accredited and institutional investors with innovative trading and lending solutions, powered by tokenised money market funds on the XRP ledger blockchain and stablecoins such as Ripple USD (RLUSD).” The collaboration will bring Franklin Templeton’s sgBENJI token, a tokenized money market fund, to DBS Digital Exchange, where investors will be able to trade it against RLUSD. By doing so, the firms seek to create a more stable alternative for portfolio diversification compared with highly volatile cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and ethereum.

Through this framework, DBS Digital Exchange will offer clients real-time access to both yield and liquidity. Ripple detailed:

With this setup, eligible DBS clients can trade RLUSD for sgBENJI tokens, enabling them to rebalance their portfolios into a relatively stable asset 24/7 and within minutes, while earning yield during periods of volatility.

In a further step, DBS is evaluating the use of sgBENJI as collateral for obtaining credit, whether through repurchase agreements with the bank or through third-party lending channels where DBS will act as custodian. The partnership positions tokenized funds as both a risk-mitigating and income-generating tool for institutional portfolios.

Franklin Templeton will broaden the tokenization infrastructure by anchoring sgBENJI to Ripple’s blockchain. Ripple described:

To strengthen the tokenisation ecosystem, Franklin Templeton will tokenise sgBENJI on the XRP Ledger – a public and enterprise-grade blockchain.

“Adding the XRP Ledger to Franklin Templeton’s existing line-up of blockchains strengthens interoperability across networks, enabling greater accessibility across different chains and participants in the blockchain ecosystem,” Ripple noted. Ripple executives characterized the integration as a milestone in bringing institutional-grade efficiency and liquidity to onchain finance. While the initiative underscores confidence in blockchain adoption, DBS cautioned clients to carefully evaluate their risk appetite before making crypto-related investments.
