Sources report that Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the erstwhile crypto magnate and former head of FTX, intends to utilize his newly appointed legal team, despite these attorneys also serving Alex Mashinsky, the former chief of Celsius. On Wednesday, in a courtroom declaration, SBF confirmed his complete understanding that his legal representatives were also advocating for Mashinsky.

Bankman-Fried Unwavering in Choice of Legal Representatives Amid Conflict Allegations
After a recently surfaced photo showed Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, he made a court appearance on Wednesday, now clean-shaven. SBF has decided to proceed with Marc Mukasey and Torrey Young as his defense attorneys for his upcoming sentencing on March 28.
Despite a letter from U.S. prosecutors to the court highlighting a potential conflict of interest due to Mukasey and Young also representing Celsius Network’s founder Alex Mashinsky, SBF is moving forward with them. Reuters documented SBF’s court appearance, during which he acknowledged his attorneys’ concurrent representation of Mashinsky, stating, “At a high level, they also represent Alex Mashinsky.”
Furthermore, SBF informed the judge that he had consulted with his trial attorney, Mark Cohen—a lawyer who once represented Ghislaine Maxwell—about this issue, as well as with Alexandra Shapiro, who is handling his appeal. He mentioned to the court that Celsius was a “firm that the firms I ran had business interactions with,” highlighting the interconnected nature of his legal and business concerns.
