Josh Shapiro Leads in Polymarket’s $11M Bet for Harris’s VP Pick
As of 12 p.m. EDT on Monday, July 22, 2024, Polymarket indicates that the governors of Pennsylvania and North Carolina are the top contenders for Kamala Harris’s potential vice presidential pick. At the time of writing, Shapiro leads the field of 21 diverse candidates on Polymarket’s wager, which is currently valued at $11 million. Shapiro’s odds stand at 29%, with Cooper closely trailing at 26%.
Following the two frontrunners is the 63rd Governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear, who has a 15% chance of becoming Harris’s potential vice president. The Democratic Senator from Arizona, Mark Kelly, also holds a 15% chance. Pete Buttigieg, the 19th United States Secretary of Transportation, has a 6% chance. Former First Lady Hillary Clinton and the 40th Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, both hold a 4% chance.
Polymarket bettors estimate that the former U.S. Democratic Representative for Ohio, Tim Ryan, has a 3% chance. Former First Lady Michelle Obama shares this 3% chance with venture capitalist and Shark Tank host Mark Cuban. The 49th Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, also has a 3% chance. According to Polymarket, Harris has an 83% chance of becoming the Democratic nominee. She has filed to campaign, with her X page stating “Harris for President” and the slogan “let’s win this.”
“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country,” Harris wrote on July 21. “I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” the current vice president added.
