Polymarket Bets Big on Josh Shapiro: Is He Kamala Harris’s Secret VP Pick for 2024?

Betting Markets Show Josh Shapiro Poised to Be Kamala Harris’s VP

As of now, Kamala Harris holds a 99% likelihood of being selected as the Democratic nominee at the upcoming convention. While it is widely accepted that Harris will secure the nomination, her choice for a running mate remains undecided. A Polymarket wager valued at $86.74 million currently places Josh Shapiro, the 48th Governor of Pennsylvania, in the lead. On July 22, 2024, Shapiro led with 29% odds, which have since risen to approximately 72%.

Shapiro, as the Governor of Pennsylvania, could be instrumental in securing the swing state’s 19 electoral votes. He enjoys historically high approval ratings compared to other potential picks. Although a Democrat, Shapiro is seen as a centrist who could help balance Harris’s image and attract independent voters. Alongside Polymarket, Shapiro is also the top contender on predictit.org, with a 74% chance of being selected.

On July 22, the second position was held by Roy Cooper, the 75th Governor of North Carolina, but he has since been displaced. The current second-place candidate is Tim Walz, the 41st Governor of Minnesota, who has a 10% chance of being chosen as the VP pick. Notably, most of Harris’s potential running mates are current state governors. In third place is Andy Beshear, the 63rd Governor of Kentucky, with an 8% chance of being chosen.

Mark Kelly, a Democratic Senator from Arizona, is in fourth place with a 7% chance, while Pete Buttigieg, the 19th United States Secretary of Transportation, rounds out the top five with a 2% chance. According to Polymarket bets on the 2024 election outcome, former President Donald Trump remains the frontrunner. However, Harris’s odds have improved to 44%, while Trump’s odds stand at 53%. On predictit.org, Harris flipped Trump and has a 55% chance of winning while Trump has a 49% chance.

Trump is still leading on betohio.com with a 59% chance over Harris’s 47% chance. Furthermore, Covers shows Trump has a 58% and Harris now stands with 47.6% odds. Those two sites also show Shapiro as the leading candidate to run with Harris.
