Polygon Discord Breached—Admins Regain Control Access
Polygon‘s chief information security officer, Mudit Gupta, explained that the Discord channel was compromised, cautioning users to avoid clicking on any links shared until the situation was fully resolved. Gupta provided an update, stating, “We’ve regained access and are currently cleaning up all the changes made by the hacker to make sure they can’t come back.”
Despite the security breach, Gupta emphasized that all privileged accounts had two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. The incident has highlighted the vulnerability of Discord as a communication platform, particularly for cryptocurrency communities where valuable information and assets are frequently discussed. Other notable crypto Discord server breaches include Ocean Protocol, Aura Network, Nahmii, and Metrixcoin.
In the aftermath of the breach, a couple of users reported significant losses, with one individual claiming to have lost $150,000 worth of ethereum ( ETH) after allegedly interacting with what appeared to be an official announcement on the channel. The breach has led to an influx of users seeking support, only to be met by imposters posing as legitimate Polygon admins, exacerbating the situation and intensifying the call for stronger security protocols on platforms like Discord.
