Prison Doctor Fails to Appear in Court

A Nigerian High Court judge has issued an arrest warrant for a Kuje Detention Centre doctor who failed to produce the medical report of jailed Binance executive Tigran Gamabaryan. The warrant was reportedly issued after Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi, complained that the doctor had disobeyed an earlier order to provide the report.

As reported by Bitcoin.com News, the High Court initially instructed the prison’s medical team to furnish the Binance executive’s legal team with the report due to complaints from Gambaryan’s family and U.S. politicians regarding inadequate medical attention.

However, a few weeks later the doctor had not provided Gambaryan’s legal team with the report. In response, Mordi approached the court again. During the proceedings, High Court Judge Justice Emeka Nwite inquired with a prison official, who confirmed that the doctor had indeed received the order.

The unnamed prison official, however, said he did not know why the doctor failed to produce the report or why he did not appear in court on Tuesday, July 16. Meanwhile, in addition to requesting the judge to issue the warrant, Gambaryan’s lawyer urged the court to remand the Binance employee to a hospital.

“My client came in here in a wheelchair. He has been complaining of back pain. We need to be careful of the life in our hands,” the lawyer argued.

After listening to Mordi and the prosecution team’s arguments, Nwite ruled that Gambaryan should be taken to the Nizamiye Hospital for medical care for 24 hours. However, the judge also stated that Gambaryan should be under full security surveillance while detained at the hospital. The trial is now set to continue on October 11 and 18.
