More Than 250 Zambian Students Attend Hackathon; Over 100 Earn Smart Contract Development Certification

Students Trained in Decentralized Application Development

More than 250 students from St. Eugene University and the University of Zambia recently attended an online boot camp and hackathon in Zambia. The event, organized by Mzansi Web3 ICP HUB South Africa, ran from March 4 to 15 and resulted in more than 100 students earning certification in smart contract development on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP).

Of the certified students, 19 had minimum viable products (MVPs) that, if completed, would qualify them to apply for grants. According to a post on Medium, the student developers were exposed not only to the ICP protocol but also received training in decentralized application ( dapp) development.

Successful Students to Apply for Grants

Shaheer Karrim, the co-founder of Mzansi Web3 ICP HUB South Africa, commented on the organization’s latest hackathon, saying this particular event helped to showcase the enthusiasm of the Zambian students. He added:

The success of the event was strongly due to our partners in the region- Motley Institute of Business and Technology. We thank all participants who contributed to this amazing occasion on the African continent. The next steps are to push the developers to the next level and support them on the development of their projects.

According to Karrim, students who complete their minimum viable products (MVPs) can apply for grants ranging from $1,000 to $25,000. Besides the grants, these students will receive continuous support through technical assistance and mentorship. They will also join a supportive ecosystem that fosters startup growth.
