Metamask Expands to Support Bitcoin Wallet Functionality

Metamask, the self-custodial crypto wallet developed by Consensys, announced the addition of bitcoin ( BTC) support to its multichain wallet platform. Users can now generate a bitcoin address automatically, buy, swap, send, and receive BTC directly within the Metamask interface, alongside existing support for Ethereum, Solana, Monad, and Sei networks.
The update currently supports the native SegWit derivation path, with Taproot support planned for future implementation. Users can purchase BTC using various payment methods including debit cards, credit cards, Apple Pay, Paypal, and bank transfers, with availability varying by region.
