BitcoinOS has revealed deploying a zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup for Litecoin, by leveraging its BitSNARK verifier on the new LitVM infrastructure to enable trustless cross-chain functionality between Litecoin and Bitcoin.
Litecoin Integrates BitcoinOS for ZK Rollup, Cross-Chain Utility

ZK Tech Connects Bitcoin and Litecoin via BitcoinOS
The smart contract operating system BitcoinOS (BOS) unveiled the ZK rollup solution at the Litecoin Summit on May 29, 2025. LitVM, an EVM-compatible layer two ( L2) for Litecoin developed by Lunar Digital Assets, will leverage BOS’s technology to enable peer-to-peer transactions, chain abstraction, and real-world asset ( RWA) integration. This marks Litecoin’s first L2 deployment.
BOS’s BitSNARK ZK verifier will allow native Litecoin-based assets to interact with Ethereum Virtual Machine ( EVM) smart contracts. The integration also introduces “Charms,” BOS’s protocol for programmable tokens, enabling assets to move seamlessly between Bitcoin and Litecoin without bridges. This aims to reduce risks associated with cross-chain transfers.
According to the team, the upgrade unlocks advanced functionalities for Litecoin, including decentralized finance ( DeFi) tools, trustless bridging of LTC, and programmable execution environments. BitcoinOS core contributor Edan Yago stated the move unleashes “the massive potential of the silver to Bitcoin’s gold,” while preserving Litecoin’s low fees and reliability.
Litecoin creator Charlie Lee endorsed the collaboration, highlighting ZK technology’s role in uniting Bitcoin and Litecoin’s UTXO ecosystems. “Litecoin has proven to be an asset for almost 14 years with no downtime. It’s only right that through ZK tech, its strengths will now be available to other chains,” Lee said.
LitVM core contributor Roc Zacharias noted Bitcoin and Ethereum L2s hold $12 billion in total value locked (TVL) across 170+ chains. He positioned LitVM as critical for Litecoin—a top cryptocurrency lacking native smart contracts—to achieve similar adoption.
The expansion follows BOS’s bridgeless transfer of Bitcoin to Cardano via Charms. Institutions and governments exploring Bitcoin reserves may benefit from Litecoin’s added scalability and privacy within a unified UTXO network, Zacharias added.
