Agglayer to Power Karate Combat Token Launch on UP
The Karate Combat token (KARATE) which is already available on Hedera and Ethereum is now slated to launch on UP, Hedera’s first-ever layer two solution, and Agglayer, a Polygon protocol for cross-chain interoperability, will facilitate the launch.
Karate Combat is a full-contact striking league that can be watched for free in over one hundred countries. The league has over a hundred fighters and generates more than 200 million digital views monthly. The organization launched KARATE on Hedera and Ethereum in 2023 to facilitate what it calls “up only gaming,” where fans can bet on the outcome of a fight for the chance to win KARATE. Correctly predicting the winner earns fans additional KARATE, but here’s the kicker, fans still get to keep all of their KARATE even if they pick the loser.
And now, after announcing Hedera’s first layer two in October, the KARATE community has chosen Agglayer to carry out the cross-chain implementation of KARATE on UP.
“Nothing excites me more than deals I’ve been cooking on, coming to announcement,” said Grzegorz Labuz, head of gaming and consumer business development at Polygon Labs. “Karate Combat team are some of the best and getting them on Agglayer was an absolute cook.”

The token, which has a smaller market capitalization of around $16 million according to Coin Market Cap, initially jumped by roughly 5.13% on the news but had dipped by about 3% at the time of reporting.
