Kadena to Shut Down Operations With Blockchain to Run Independently

Network to Continue Without Company Support as Kadena Winds Down
Kadena, the company behind the proof-of-work ( PoW) smart contract blockchain of the same name, has announced it is shutting down operations effective immediately. The organization cited challenging market conditions as the reason it can no longer sustain its business activities or continue promoting the network’s adoption.
In a statement on X, Kadena confirmed that all active maintenance and business functions will end, with a small transition team retained to oversee the wind-down process. The company expressed gratitude to employees, partners, and community members, saying it will work to ensure a smooth transition.
Despite the closure, the Kadena blockchain itself will remain operational, as it runs on a decentralized network of independent miners. The company plans to release a new binary update soon to maintain uninterrupted network functionality without its direct involvement, encouraging node operators to upgrade promptly.
Kadena also emphasized that the KDA token and protocol will continue autonomously. More than 566 million KDA remain to be distributed as mining rewards through 2139, with an additional 83.7 million KDA set to unlock by November 2029.
The organization said it will work with the community to establish a path toward community-led governance and maintenance of the project. While Kadena’s closure marks the end of its corporate chapter, its blockchain, true to its decentralized roots, appears poised to continue without it.
