Jamie Dimon Warns of Growing Geopolitical Risks
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon warned on Tuesday that geopolitical tensions around the world are worsening. In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Dimon expressed concerns about global stability, emphasizing that these risks surpass other economic challenges and could severely impact the global economy. His comments come nearly a year after first naming geopolitics as the biggest global threat.
“My caution is all geopolitics, which may determine the state of the economy,” he said, emphasizing:
Geopolitics is getting worse, they are not getting better. There is chance for accidents in energy supply. God knows if other countries get involved. You have a lot of war taking place right now.
He cited recent attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels on oil tankers in the Red Sea as an example of growing risks. The JPMorgan CEO also highlighted the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war, urging the U.S. to prepare for a prolonged conflict.
Although Dimon has long been an optimist about the future, he was more reserved when it came to the current state of the U.S. economy. “I’m a long-term optimist, but in the short run, I’m also more skeptical of other people that say everything [is] going to be great,” he said.
Despite the recent actions by the Federal Reserve to reduce interest rates, Dimon remains wary of potential economic miscalculations driven by optimism. He opined:
Markets are pricing things like they’re going to be great. Put me on the cautious side of that one.
