Tigran Gambaryan, a U.S. citizen and former federal agent detained in Nigeria for eight months, has been released. The charges against him, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, were dropped. The release of the Binance executive from one of Nigeria’s notorious prisons followed intense lobbying by U.S. politicians who were urging the Biden administration to designate Gambaryan a hostage. The Binance employee’s health deteriorated significantly during his imprisonment, prompting calls for his release on medical grounds. His wife, Yuki Gambaryan, expressed relief and gratitude for his release, thanking the U.S. government and supporters for their efforts. The family now plans to focus on Tigran’s recovery.
