On July 23, David Bailey, CEO of BTC Inc., the company organizing Bitcoin 2024 in Nashville, stated that Vice President Kamala Harris is considering attending the event. “Would be very savvy of her to reset the democrat positioning on the fastest growing voter block in the country,” Bailey said. Furthermore, billionaire Mark Cuban told Politico that he has heard feedback suggesting Harris will “be far more open to business,” including industries such as cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence (AI).
However, the response on the social media platform X has varied. Long-time bitcoin advocate Wayne Vaughan stated, “Democrats spent four years trying to destroy bitcoin. Kamala Harris only wants to speak at the Bitcoin Conference because she’s desperate to avoid losing this election. Democrats want some of that sweet money raised by pro crypto Super PACs.” Vaughan added:

Another person remarked, “Kamala has [had] 3.5 years to speak about bitcoin. Suddenly she wants to pander and speak at BTC Nashville? Pretty embarassing tbh.” Brandon Davis, founder of dollarriot.com, suggested that conference attendees should express their true opinions to Harris. “When Kamala walks into the bitcoin conference, I want all of the attendees to remember what she, and her counterparts, did to crypto over the past 3 years. They HATE what you stand for, and they hate liberty,” Davis said.
Moreover, many questioned how Harris could be trusted after supporting Biden’s policies on crypto, ongoing wars, careless spending, and vaccine mandates. Her tenure as San Francisco’s District Attorney was also marred by scandal, including accusations of covering up issues with the city’s crime lab. This misconduct raised concerns about tainted evidence in thousands of drug-related cases. In 2010, a court ruled that Harris’s district attorney’s office had violated constitutional rights by failing to disclose information about the compromised crime lab.
Following rumors of Harris’s potential attendance at the crypto conference, a Polymarket bet was launched to wager on her appearance. On Wednesday, July 24, at 8:56 a.m. EDT, the odds stood at a mere 8%. The likelihood is much higher that the vice president will not attend Bitcoin 2024 alongside Donald Trump and Robert Kennedy. “Kamala is going to speak at Bitcoin 2024 and laugh the entire time at how her administration tried to destroy crypto,” one person snidely wrote on X.
At 10:13 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, Bailey revealed that Harris would not attend the event. “Kamala Harris will not be speaking [at Bitcoin 2024]. No surprise. What can she say to us when she’s actively imprisoning developers, forcing our industry overseas, attacking PoW… it would have been a disaster for her,” Bailey wrote. “All eyes on Trump now,” he added.
