Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin Highlights Blockchain and Crypto Push in Argentina
Argentina will be very important for the future of blockchain, crypto, and especially Ethereum. This is the opinion of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who took to social media to give his take regarding the future of this tech in the country.
Buterin gave his support to the Argentine crypto community in the wake of the debacle of Libra, a cryptocurrency project that was shared by President Javier Milei on social media, leaving tens of thousands affected.
Answering a post that reflected on the crucial role of Argentines in the crypto world even after Libra’s debacle, Buterin stressed that the Argentine community had already produced “some of the most important software” in the Ethereum ecosystem.
Remarking on this idea, Buterin stated:
The energy and determination to build on Argentina’s current momentum and use crypto and other new technologies to build a prosperous 21st century society is real.
Argentina has been consistently ranking among the top spots of cryptocurrency and blockchain adoption charts for years. This is attributed to several economic woes that everyday citizens have to deal with, including devaluation, inflation, and also an exchange control that limits the amount of foreign currency Argentines can manage.
While these have alleviated during President Milei’s administration, they are still present, and Argentines have chosen to use blockchain and crypto as tools to solve these challenges.
Buterin also hinted at the possibility of hosting Devconnect, an event that gathers followers and developers of the Ethereum ecosystem for a whole week, in Argentina. “Hosting Devconnect in Argentina could be a great opportunity to show the best of what crypto can offer,” he assessed, clarifying that this would also depend on other variables.
“I continue to be very optimistic about Argentina and Latam’s contributions and role in the space,” Buterin concluded.
