Experts from all over the world are examining the actions that President Javier Milei, under his libertarian vision, is executing in Argentina. The chainsaw model, as he has called it, referring to his trademark chainsaw display during his campaign, would be implemented by Spacex CEO and soon-to-be-designated Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) lead Elon Musk to bring relevant changes to the state’s structures in the U.S.

In a recent talk, President Milei remarked on the success of his libertarian proposal, stating that its De-Regulation and State Transformation ministry was one of the most successful, linking it with the next coordinator of the Trump administration’s state transformation policies.

Milei commented that President-Elect Trump had incorporated Musk into his government team to replicate the experience of Federico Sturzenegger, the de-regulation minister, in the U.S. He stated:

Among the several topics that I have touched on with Elon Musk is that he is already communicating with Federico to replicate this model. We are exporting the Chainsaw, deregulation model to all over the world.

Milei’s chainsaw model is linked to the elimination of non-productive or non-essential institutions for the state, trimming the unnecessary expenses derived from the existence of these bureaucratic structures. It also seeks to streamline most state functions, leaving it outside most activities and focusing on providing a suite of core services.

This focus already ended a series of ministries in Argentina, affecting key institutions like the Coin House and even the tax collecting agency, which was recently substituted by a smaller organization.

According to reports, Milei’s chainsaw focus has yielded positive results in decreasing state spending, eliminating over 33,000 job positions. In addition, more state-owned companies are in the government’s sight, including Argentine Airlines, which might be sold or closed.
