Trump and Musk Discuss Inflation and Government Spending
Former U.S. President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk engaged in a discussion on Musk’s social media platform, X, on Monday, covering a range of topics including government spending, inflation, and energy policy.
During their conversation, Musk stressed that inflation comes from government overspending. The billionaire stated:
A lot of people just don’t understand where inflation comes from. Inflation comes from government overspending because the checks never bounce when written by the government.
“So, if the government spends far more than it brings in, that increases the money supply. And if the money supply increases faster than the rate of goods and services, that’s inflation,” Musk explained. “So really, we need to reduce our government spending and we need to reexamine — I think we need like a government efficiency commission to say: ‘Hey, where are we spending money?'”
Musk shared with Trump:
I think it would be great to just have a government efficiency commission that takes a look at these things and just ensures that the taxpayers’ hard-earned money is spent in a good way, and I’d be happy to help out on such a commission if it were formed.
“I’d love it,” Trump quickly responded, adding: “You’re the greatest cutter.” Trump praised Musk’s idea and suggested that the billionaire would be an excellent leader for such a commission.
