Grayscale: Robinhood Chain, BNB, Solana Lead $3B Weekly Stock Trade

Key Takeaways

  • Weekly tokenized equity trading volume peaked near $3 billion.
  • Onchain tokenized stock value locked surpassed $110 million.
  • Lending and collateral use remain small but are expanding rapidly.

Tokenized Equity Trading Reaches New High

Tokenized equity trading climbed to new highs in August as blockchain-based stocks attracted activity across several major networks. Grayscale Head of Research Zach Pandl said weekly spot volume peaked near $3 billion early in the month, while Robinhood Chain, BNB Chain, and Solana accounted for most volume during the final week covered by the firm’s Sept. 3 analysis.

The growth remains concentrated in trading rather than broader financial activity. Grayscale said only about 5% of the tokenized equity market is deployed in onchain finance, although total value locked has surpassed $110 million. The crypto asset manager further stated:

“Tokenized equities are scaling first as a global trading product. A growing capital base and possible US regulatory experimentation could support their transition from access to financial utility.”

The asset manager identified Jupiter and Kamino as Solana lending venues, while Uniswap, Pancakeswap, and Raydium provide trading infrastructure.

Three Networks Dominate Tokenized Stock Trading

Robinhood Chain has become a significant venue for tokenized equity trading, although much of the network’s overall activity is unrelated to tokenized stocks. The seven most-traded tokenized stocks generated $4.3 billion in decentralized exchange volume over 30 days, Token Terminal data show, and three of those assets trade on Robinhood Chain. Memecoins have powered much of the network’s early activity, eclipsing the tokenized stocks central to Robinhood’s initial pitch.

BNB Chain has built a large tokenized equity market through multiple issuers, including Ondo Global Markets, bStocks, xStocks, Colb Finance, and Paimon Finance. Its cumulative tokenized stock trading volume surpassed $5.2 billion by late June, while more than 700 tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds were available through the network’s expanding equity ecosystem.

Solana recorded $5.77 billion in tokenized asset volume during the second quarter, rising 114% from the previous quarter. Tokenized equities accounted for $4.8 billion, approximately four times the $1.1 billion recorded during the first quarter. The increase extended Solana’s run to six consecutive quarterly records for tokenized asset trading volume.

These products fall within the broader real-world asset market, which places ownership claims or economic exposure to traditional assets on blockchains. A tokenized stock may represent a direct security, a claim against shares held by a custodian, or another contractual structure. The holder’s legal rights depend on the issuer, custody arrangement, and terms governing the real-world asset token.

Financial Utility Begins Moving Beyond Trading

Robinhood began offering more than 200 U.S. stock and ETF tokens to eligible European customers in 2025, initially issuing them on Arbitrum. The company said its planned layer-2 network would support tokenized real-world assets, continuous trading, bridging, and self-custody. Its original stock-token announcement positioned global market access as the first stage of the project. Robinhood subsequently launched the Robinhood Chain public mainnet on July 1, 2026.

Regulators are examining whether tokenization can improve settlement while preserving protections available in conventional securities markets. The Securities and Exchange Commission’s Investor Advisory Committee said tokenized shares and payment could settle within one transaction, potentially reducing delivery failures. Its March 12 recommendation also called for clear ownership disclosures, regulated intermediaries, and protections designed to secure favorable execution terms.

The next phase depends on whether tokenized stocks gain wider use as collateral and lending assets rather than remaining trading instruments. Grayscale said tokenized equities deployed through lending protocols such as Kamino and Jupiter increased about tenfold over the past year, establishing an early financial layer on top of the expanding trading market.
