Lykke Faces Accusations of Delayed Breach Confirmation
The U.K.-based cryptocurrency exchange Lykke said it was forced to shut down after a breach saw a hacker siphon digital funds worth $22 million. The crypto exchange revealed that the attack occurred on June 4 but insisted that clients’ funds were safe and that the stolen funds would be recovered.
In a statement shared via the social media platform X, Lykke stated that the affected systems had been shut down to limit damage while the security breaches were “thoroughly examined and fully addressed.” The crypto exchange’s confirmation of the hack came a day after Web3 threats researcher Somaxbt accused Lykke of concealing the theft.

While acknowledging the severity of the attack, Lykke was quick to highlight its strong financial position. The crypto exchange suggested it has leads on who may have perpetrated the attack.
“A criminal investigation against this person is ongoing. An external cybersecurity company has been contracted and works on blocking and recovering the stolen assets. We are keeping the exchange closed as a preventive measure.” the crypto exchange said.
A report by DL News stated that bitcoin ( BTC) accounted for half of the stolen digital assets, while ethereum ( ETH), bitcoin cash ( BCH), and litecoin ( LTC) made up the remainder. The report disclosed that after the attack, the hacker converted the stolen ETH into the stablecoin DAI, and the BTC was distributed across multiple wallets.
