Tom Emmer Criticizes SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s Regulatory Practices
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) took to social media platform X on Friday to express his discontent with the current regulatory practices of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler.
In his post, the congressman criticized the SEC chairman for engaging in what he termed “regulation-by-harassment.” Emmer underscored his message by using a hashtag that explicitly called for the dismissal of the SEC chairman, thereby signaling his firm and unambiguous stance on the matter.

The lawmaker’s statement came in response to Gensler’s post on X, where the SEC chair urged investors to submit tips or complaints to the SEC if they observed any suspicious activity in the market.
Rep. Emmer has frequently criticized Gensler’s enforcement-centric approach, particularly in regulating the crypto industry. In May, he stressed, “Gary Gensler’s SEC needs significant reforms.” The lawmaker emphasized his support for three legislative measures aimed at overhauling the SEC’s regulatory processes, boosting transparency to Congress, and enhancing cybersecurity. Emmer described:
Chairman Gary Gensler’s tenure at the SEC has been characterized by regulatory hypocrisy, inconsistency, and incompetence.
He voiced concerns that the SEC has strayed from its fundamental mission to protect investors, facilitate capital formation, and maintain orderly markets. According to the lawmaker, Gensler’s approach is detrimental to these core objectives.
