The Colombian Industry and Commerce Superintendence (SIC), the personal data protection authority of the country, has formulated charges against Worldcoin, the biometric digital ID project, for violations of the personal data regime. The institution stated that the accusation focuses on determining whether Worldcoin violated Colombian law in its handling of the personal and private data collected from Colombian users. If found liable, Worldcoin could face fines of up to $646,000, as well as a pause or definitive termination of its activities in the country. Worldcoin declared that it is still analyzing the situation but noted that such occurrences are not unusual. The organization stated that it is willing to ācollaborate with government agencies and regulators and remains committed to maintaining transparent and fair practices.
