CME Unleashing XRP Options After $16B Futures Rally Signals Strong Institutional Demand

XRP Options Set to Launch on CME in October With Daily Expirations

CME Group, the world’s largest derivatives marketplace, announced on Sept. 17 that it will introduce options on XRP and solana futures beginning Oct. 13, pending regulatory review. The new contracts will extend to both standard and micro-sized futures. The company noted:

With the launch of these new products, clients will have the ability to trade options on SOL, Micro SOL, XRP, and Micro XRP futures, with expiries available every day of the business week, every month and every quarter.

Giovanni Vicioso, CME Group’s global head of cryptocurrency products, pointed to the momentum driving the decision to expand the firm’s crypto offerings. He stated: “The launch of these options contracts builds on the significant growth and increasing liquidity we have seen across our suite of solana and XRP futures.” He added that the company’s products are attracting participants across the spectrum, from institutional investors to active individual traders. The rollout is designed to strengthen hedging opportunities and deepen liquidity beyond bitcoin and ethereum, aligning with rising institutional demand for diversified digital asset tools.

Adoption data underscores the pace of growth in these markets. XRP futures, launched in May, have already seen more than 370,000 contracts traded, equal to $16.2 billion in notional value, with August setting records for both average daily volume and open interest. Solana futures, introduced in March, have reached over 540,000 contracts traded, representing $22.3 billion in notional terms, and also posted record activity in August.

A company statement emphasized the rapid traction of these contracts:

Since their respective launches, CME Group’s suite of solana and XRP futures have become some of the company’s most quickly adopted futures products.

The addition of options reflects CME Group’s broader strategy to meet demand for institutional-grade digital asset instruments.
