Nayib Bukele, president of El Salvador, has issued an ultimatum for importers and food wholesalers to lower the prices of groceries and other articles, threatening to apply the same tactics he used against gangs with them. Bukele, who pushed the law that made bitcoin legal tender in the country, stated: βIβm going to issue a message to the importers, distributors, and food wholesalers: stop abusing the people of El Salvador, or donβt complain about what happens afterward.β Before, he pointed out that some prices had risen threefold, affecting the ability of Salvadoreans to access these items. βI expect the prices to come down by tomorrow or there are going to be problems,β he concluded.
