Bloomberg’s senior ETF analyst has updated his spot ethereum exchange-traded fund (ETF) prediction. “We are moving up our over/under date for the launch of spot ether ETF to July 2nd,” he said. This revision follows light comments from the SEC Staff on issuers’ S-1 filings. The analyst believes there is a decent chance the SEC will approve the filings next week, aiming to finalize them before the holiday weekend.

Spot Ether ETF Launch Date Revised
Bloomberg’s senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas has updated his prediction of when spot ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) will go live. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved 19b-4 filings for eight spot ether ETFs last month. However, the regulator still needs to approve S-1 (registration statement) filings before spot ether ETFs can launch.
Balchunas shared on social media platform X on Friday that Bloomberg has moved the expected spot ethereum ETF launch date to July 2 because the SEC Staff sent issuers comments on their S-1 filings on Friday and the comments were “pretty light.” He wrote:
We are moving up our over/under date for the launch of spot ether ETF to July 2nd, hearing the Staff sent issuers comments on S-1s today, and they’re pretty light, nothing major, asking for them back in a week.
The Bloomberg analyst believes that there is a “decent chance” that the SEC is working to declare the S-1 filings effective next week and “get it off their plates” before the holiday weekend. Nonetheless, he cautioned that anything is possible, but emphasized that “this is our best guess as of now.”
Balchunas clarified in a follow-up post that his “previous over/under was July 4th,” noting that this revised prediction is not a “major shift.” He opined, “We started to feel like it would take longer so this is kinda good news,” adding that once S-1 filings are approved, ETFs “typically” go live the next day.
