In a social media post, the company’s executive officer expressed enthusiasm for this development, stating, “boom. today we’re onboarding our first few Square sellers for the new native bitcoin acceptance experience. this is the way!” This move marks a significant step towards integrating bitcoin payments into Square’s platform, leveraging the Lightning Network for faster and more efficient transactions. The rollout is expected to reach all eligible Square sellers by 2026, pending regulatory approvals. This initiative builds on Square’s Bitcoin Conversions feature launched in 2024, which allows merchants to convert a portion of their sales into bitcoin.
