Bitcoin user demographics: European males age 25-34

If you’ve ever wondered what the typical demographic of bitcoin users are, this snapshot should help you understand the types of users that the digital currency has.

These statistics come from bitcoinx.io (which was later acquired by bitcoin.com), which some of you may find interesting. Since this is a bitcoin website, these stats may help shed some light on the type of people that use bitcoin.

The stats below are for the last trailing 90-days. Since bitcoinx.io sees a large amount of web traffic, these statistics should be indicative of the typical bitcoin user, although not inclusive of the entire bitcoin space.

One thing to note is that since bitcoinx.io is a bitcoin-only website, it’s exclusive of other digital currency and non-digital currency users that may have a slight interest in bitcoin and blockchain technology where it could slightly change the demographics.

  • 39.9% of users are European
  • 86.9% are male
  • 38.2% are age 25-34

Bitcoin has been criticized in the past for not having a female presence. As a Mother Jones writer discussed last year, it’s clear that bitcoin “is dominated by men geeking out about the blockchain.” That general sentiment holds value, but the overall theory was quickly debunked, as Forbes wrote an article that rumors of the lack of women in the bitcoin industry have been greatly exaggerated.

Our statistics also confirm this, showing that 13.1% of our user base are women. Men still dominate the space, but as bitcoin grows, so does the demographics and the number of women who are involved more and more.
