Bhutan Launches Gold-Backed Digital Token on Solana Blockchain

Bhutan announced the launch of TER, a gold-backed digital token, on December 11, 2025, through Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). The token, whose name derives from the Dzongkha word for “Treasure,” will be issued on Solana’s blockchain infrastructure and distributed exclusively by DK Bank, Bhutan’s first digital bank. The initiative represents a significant step in Bhutan’s innovative approach to digital assets and sovereign technology integration.

“As Gelephu Mindfulness City takes shape, the launch of TER marks a foundational step in building a values-driven digital economy,” said Jigdrel Singay, GMC Board Director. The token provides international investors with a secure, digital approach to gold ownership, combining the security of physical assets with the convenience of blockchain technology and institutional-grade custody.
