Amir Taaki Explains Why Crypto Has Failed

While the current integration of bitcoin and crypto has been celebrated by some of the earlier contributors to these projects, others have resented the incorporation of these previously obscure and alternative tools as mainstream investment options and currencies.

Amir Taaki, an early Bitcoin developer, recently shared his perspective on the current state of these cryptocurrency projects and how they affect the power structures surrounding them.

On social media, Taaki stated:

Crypto failed to achieve its vision because nobody understands the nature of power. They attempted to integrate within the existing regimes of truth, but made themselves subservient their ideology.

He described two paths for crypto projects to follow. They can either turn into cathedrals, where their truth is reinforced by groupthink, or they can pursue their vision without any coherent structure, which also condemns them to failure.

“To truly deliver crypto will require a new regime of truth. One which is ideological and authentic,” he stressed.

Nonetheless, Taaki also engaged in a mea culpa exercise, stating that the current state of crypto is partly due to the inability to present a compelling proposal outside of power centers. “The failure is all ours. We have to organize and present a coherent vision,” he assessed.

Even so, he believes that the crypto movement is strong and that we are in a time that could lead to a more distributed power structure. “States will lose power. We have to mobilize because this is a special time we inhabit,” he concluded.

Taaki has become a vocal critic of the crypto status quo and the direction the bitcoin project has taken, calling current core developers corrupt and broken. For some time, Taaki has also expressed curiosity about ethereum and decentralized finance, pivoting from his earlier bitcoin interests.
